European Researchers' Night in Cyprus

The European Researchers’ Night aims to encourage the public to become familiar with the world of science and research. Through a festive atmosphere, events across Europe bring together the general public, regardless of age, gender, educational or social level with the research teams, as an opportunity to find out more their work and get to know aspects of their personality beyond their scientific activity.  More than 1,500,000 visitors take part each year in this science and research festival, which takes place every last Friday in September in more than 350 cities across Europe.

The annual event is an initiative of the European Commission and is funded through the Marie Sklodowska Curie Actions (MSCA) of the EU’s Framework-Programme for Research and Innovation.

The European Researchers’ Night event has been organized by the Research and Innovation Foundation in Cyprus since 2006, in collaboration with the main actors of the local research and innovation ecosystem (Public and Private Universities, Research Centers, Non-Governmental Organizations, Enterprises, etc.).

Brainy and Genie are the mascots of European Researchers ’Night event in Cyprus.

Brainy was first introduced to the public during the 2016 event and has been an integral part of ERN Cyprus’ visual identity ever since.

The mascots met and were introduced to us for the first time together at European Researchers ’Night in 2020 in its first Digital Edition.

The two mascots are characterized by curiosity, intelligence and perseverance along with all those elements for which an excellent researcher is known for. These figures represent the characteristics and values of every researcher on the path to achieving their goals and fulfilling their dreams.
